Oh my goodness Dennis and Faith - Kent just shared the news. You are in our thoughts and prayers - and I know that you'll be out on your boat hooking into a big king very soon!
A suggestion that Mary & I used when we went through her breast cancer- get a small, handheld analog or digital audio recorder to take with you into your doctor consultations. It alleviates the drudgery of taking notes and you don't miss any of the facts. You can play back what the really said. All of the doctors are used to this practices, and, in fact, encourage it. While you're going through this tribulation it's hard to focus on what they are telling you and sometimes just hard to understand the lingo. Being able to have a record of their advice and info and play it back helped us understand better what we were going through, especially when you start dealing with primary surgeons, oncologists & all of the other specialists you'll deal with. Our thoughts are with you, Dennis. When I heard your tumor affected your speech I knew that would frustrate you to no end- communicating and story-telling is such a big part of what you do. Hang tough- Ray
Hey Dennis - just got the word. Sorry to hear about this. But I know you'll give it your best fight and be back hunting and fishing - and speaking eloquently - again soon! I'll keep you and Faith and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Please let us know if there is anything we can do.
Dennis - ok so maybe i will let you wrap your deer meat in my new kitchen ....but absolutely no cutting.... The weather in Missoula is warm and pleasant today and you will be happy to learn we not only skirted damage from this year's highwater but my bank stabilization work from last year held up nicely. Good thing since it will be a while before I can do anything with my right hand and arm. We are thinking about you (positively that is) and trust we will see you in the fall if not sooner Olleke and Orville
Dennis, Faith & Friends - this news certainly came as a shock. It sounds like you are getting the best possible medical care in Seattle though and wonderful support from friends. I will be thinking of you as you go through your surgery and recovery, with the hope that you'll be able to return to Southeast Alaska to enjoy more of the terrific weather we've been experiencing this summer. Stay strong, Paul
Hope things are going ok.... I'm sure Kona is wondering where you're at....though Ardy is no doubt spoiling her....If you need anyone to help with Kona, cats or house- give us a call... Carol, Brain & Anna
Dennis, Puchlerz called me last night with the news. I'll spare other readers the profanity that crossed my lips, but you can clearly hear the words. I send every best wish to you and those around you as you go through a difficult weekend in preparation for Monday. Have some fun, smoke a cigar, and embarrass your daughters! I'll keep trying to call, although there hasn't been much success in getting through to the room. Let me know if there's anything I can do...here or there...406-370-7400. Your elk hunting partner...Ed
You're in our thoughts and prayers Dennis. You must have taken the sun with you when you headed to Seattle. That's cool...it's much nicer to recover with sunshine at your window. Please bring it back with you when you return.
Enjoy the weekend with your family. We'll make sure to catch a king in your honor on Saturday. Oh yeah, and eat it too! :)
We'll be sending positive energy down your way Monday AM. Pat, Emma and Carolyn
Dennis, Well that's a heck of a way to get our attention! Glad to hear you are in good spirits, though, and have friends and family close by.
I'm sure you'll be getting some good stories out of this "adventure". Best wishes for a relatively easy and uneventful surgery, and a very speedy recovery.
Stands With Phone! Posted a note to you this morning, but it looks like it didn't take, so sorry if this is a duplicate. Sending strong thoughts and gentle prayers your way. Denise
Dennis and Faith - I just heard the news and wanted to send you some well wishes. I am a cat person, so don't take this the wrong way, but here's a joke for you: A firefighter was working on the engine outside the station, when he noticed a little girl nearby in a little red wagon with little ladders hung off the sides, and a garden hose tightly coiled in the middle.
The girl was wearing a firefighter's helmet.
The wagon was being pulled by her dog and her cat.
The firefighter walked over to take a closer look. 'That sure is a nice fire truck,' the firefighter said with admiration.
'Thanks,' the girl replied.
The firefighter looked a little closer. He noticed the girl had tied the wagon to her dog's collar and to the cat's testicles.
'Little partner,' the firefighter said, 'I don't want to tell you how to run your rig, but if you were to tie that rope around the cat's collar, I think you could go faster.'
The little girl replied thoughtfully, 'You're probably right, but then I wouldn't have a siren.'
Looking forward to seeing you when you get back home! I'll be sending mojo your way on Monday!! :) Christal
Dennis, sorry to not reply sooner I have been mapping geology for the past two weeks and have just returned and heard of your challenges. Your focus should be to get that thing out and to begin your physical training for your upcoming goat hunt. You are not going to use this as an excuse to have me pack the whole animal out for you... :-)
Glad to hear you are in such good spirits. It's nice to hear (and see) that you have your family about. Nothing better!
Ironbender (Mike Ashwell) told me about this site and I'm in his debt now...and not a thing I can do about it! It was bound to happen at some time...grins
I'm planning on being down your way in the spring to visit the cabin site on Wrangell and see George in Pete. I'd like to stop in Ketch and buy your and Faith's dinner some evening...
I'll be watching this blog and talking to the man upstairs a time or three...couldn't hurt one bit.
Hey Dennis, glad to hear your surgery was a success. Time to buckle down and grow that long mane back again since you always beat me! The big C is such an inconvenience, I know you'll hunt it down. Hurry and come back, you are missing the sunshine. Carol G in Sitka
Glad to hear things went well today. It was quite a shock to learn of this. I'm looking for you to get back up here ASAP so you can get out with me on the boat this season. I've been working my tail off on it. Start a week from today. Oh ya, we got a project to finish too! Keep up the good fight and get home soon.
Hi Dennis and Faith, we are sending thoughts and prayers your way from ND. I know you will kick this. I recently went through it and know you will beat it too. It is a tough fight so glad Scott is there to help you all out too. Let all the folks that care about you help anyway they can. We wish we were closer. Take care, Cathy and Russ Walsh
Good to hear things are coming along and you'll be home soon.
Still busy with the boat. I'm leaving tomorrow and will start fishing Sunday. Lookin forward to that. The work has taken a lot more time than I'd anticipated.
I'll be running right up the same route tomorrw, that you and I took in April to Point Baker. Looking forward to that. I'll also have a lot more time to look around as I'll be doing about 7/8 knots vs 30.
