Dennis Update - June 12, 2009 - 1:15pm

After a good night sleep by everyone, we spent the morning with the surgeons and specialists to get prepared for Monday morning. Dennis is doing good and Faith is being a rock! Monday we will go to the Hospital at 0530 for all the pre-op stuff and the surgery starts about 7:20am. Again, pretty straight forward surgery (as brain surgery goes). 2 - 2.5 hour surgery. He will be out for the surgery, but they will wake him shortly after they finish to check neurological function. They expect a day in ICU, another night in the hospital and he can leave.

Then once the pathology reports are done, he will meet with radiologists and oncologists to determine next steps.

The tentative plan is for him to stay in the Seattle area until Friday to discuss options with the specialists and hopefully head home to Ketchikan on Friday or Saturday. The surgeon told him he can and should be active and get up and moving as soon as possible. It is very common for people to have these types of surgery and be out and about in a couple days.

Dennis' daughters will be here in a couple hours and they will all get to spend the weekend hanging out in downtown Seattle. As I mentioned, Dennis is feeling good, needs to nap every once in a while after the meds, but otherwise good. Sometimes he takes calls and sometimes he doesn't want to...probably best not to overdue the calls. He has no trouble reading and loves to read the comments you post.

Hopefully with the next post I will have some info on "what you can do" to help as so many have asked.

P.S. Dennis is going to get a haircut this weekend...buzz cut...we will definitely take a couple pictures!

Hey Dennis, hang in there. We are thinking of you and wish you the best. You need to plan on stopping in Trout Creek this fall. I picked up a 8x6 pair of elk sheds Sunday that green scored 321. Need to find him on the hoof this fall. Take Care!!!

what about coloring the buzz cut pink? you would fit into the seattle nite life so much better AND would make a nice attractant for the silvers. I hear they like pink lures. Tricia

Hey Dennis. I've been tracking with Skippy your recent doings (of course). I don't suppose that Lear jet ride to Seattle accepted frequent flyer miles (although I hear the in-flight service does beat the Ak Air first class cabin)? Can't wait to see the photos of you shorn, although I do seem to recall you cut the pony tail off a while back. Be a good citizen this weekend in my ol' hometown. I'll catch up with you later gator. Love, Patty G.

Hi Dennis,

I also can't wait to see the buzz, though I'm partial to you coloring it lime green rather than pink and in southcentral at least it's the lime green lures that really take home the fish.

You are in all our thoughts here at The Nature Conservancy. We are sending lots of great energy your way...Erin and the crew

Don't know what your plans are but there is a good Indian resturant called the Cedars in the University district we like to go to whenever we're in Seattle (Near the Safeway). Take Care and best wishes.

Dennis,
I love the various contributions to your blog. You should ask the authors your famous question, "Is it important that all the words are spelled correctly?" I imagine it will cause great frothing and reviewing to see if there are, in fact, any errors. (As with all written efforts, including my owm, there are.) I've been thinking what it must be like to have words jumble in the mainframe before they get to the speaker. As a longtime word guy, I hope you don't find it too frustrating. Even though you could pick a better reason for a family gathering, make sure you have a fun weekend with the the ladies in your life. If you have the opportunity, throw the cap away. Shave and a haircut..two bits! Ed

Hey Dennis and Faith -
I know you're glad to be away from the confines of Virginia Mason for the weekend (I spent way too many hours/days there when my dad was ailing). Hope you have some nice mild weather so you can get out and enjoy the big city. Will be sending all kinds of positive thoughts and energy your way! I just want to know - is the beard coming off too so your chin will match your head? Take care!

Dennis,
Word just got to the Pinkerton's in Arkansas. We are sending flowers and several fruit baskets whether you like it or not. We might even send a bug or two also. You know the story.
Our hopes and prayers are with you. Hannah will have something out to you shortly I'm sure. Thanks for writing Scott.
